• Bali Batik Fabrics

  • Colours in these batiks range from warm earth tones to more vibrant hues. Patterns are rarely directional, making them ideal for quilting. Mixing these batiks with the Asian fabrics creates interesting effects.

    Bali, Indonesia is the birthplace of the batik process of fabric colouring and design. Originally only women of privilege were allowed to craft these fabrics, but today Bali craftspeople come from all walks of life. Crafting methods are passed from one generation to the next. The method uses multiple dyes, each with a wax “resist” applied first, in a pattern, to prevent the dye from reaching that area of the fabric. When the final dye is complete, the fabric is washed and laid out in the fields to dry.
