It's raining!!!!! I never thought that living in Vancouver I'd be excited by rain, but indeed I am. Such a lovely sight after these months of parched earth.
Summer Sale Day Tomorrow! Saturday July 25th, 10 - 5 is the Christmas in July sale at my studio. All fabrics are at least 15% off. Silk and wool batting is 20% off... Kits are a further 10% off the show special pricing... Books are 15% off. Companionship and stories are free, as is laughter! Instead of me doing a demo this time, I'm inviting you to bring any project you have started and on which you'd like to get some design feedback. We'll gather in my kitchen and share ideas on our projects. Please bring your works in progress and let's help each other:-) And there are still some Challenge 2015 kits available and they'll be out for you to consider if you might want to take up the challenge (but not on sale).
The Best Garage Door Ever... I came across this garage in a Vancouver light industrial area... Had to share it with you...
Hold that thought close to your heart.
Grandsons at work... This spring I received a great email from a customer I generally only see at shows. She said...
I purchased this quilt kit from you (Desert Sun) and I had my 2 grandsons help arrange the blocks for me. They spent about 1 1/2 hrs moving and placing the blocks. They had a lot of fun doing it. They are 10 and 12 years old. I think they did a great job! I was very happy with your directions and fabric selection for the kit. I am coming the the Fraser Valley Quilt Show and I will try and bring it along to show you if you are not busy
She did come and we spoke of the fun her grandsons had designing the layout of her Desert Sun... here are photos:
She also came to see me at the FVQG show and brought the finished quilt. Here's the picture we took:
So the message here is that it's summertime, and your grandkids might be able to help you with that project you've got underway:-)
Sewing School at Work... A while ago I told you I had received a shipment of these books:
This book is full of great projects for young beginner sewers. Here are two things my granddaughters and I have made from patterns and instructions in the book:
I now can highly recommend the book from personal experience:-) The kids are very proud of their projects.
Charm Shipment (Shugei Zakka) Arrives... Thanks to the language skills of Naoko, our renter, I have another shipment of these babies... And I added a couple of new ones. These are $2.50 each...
And these are $1.75 each (set of 4 on the coins)...
Travel to Japan... Many customers have asked when I will lead a trip to Japan. The answer, after due consideration and in recognition of my many shortcomings, is "I won't." But I've found someone who does lead trips of quilters to Japan, around the time of the Tokyo International Quilt Show every January. She is said to do a great job and I am passing on a link to her website: http://qejapan.com/
Customer Quilts Web Album is Updated... I've not kept up with my web album updating this past spring, and just recently got the album of photos of customer quilts for sharing updated. Here's the link -- https://picasaweb.google.com/111238355129959414049/CustomerQuiltsUploaded
That's it!!!! Have a great month and I hope to see some of you tomorrow.
