Overview of Essex Linens and where to find them on this site:
Incorporating Essex Linens gives textural variety and a beautiful hand to my quilts. I use all three substrates of Essex linen and they all play nicely with quilting cottons and silks. I recommend not pre-washing because the fabrics cut and piece more easily with the sizing in the fabrics. I've never had a problem with variable shrinkage and prefer the ease of working with unwashed fabric!
Essex linens by Robert Kaufman are manufactured in three substrates:
- Essex Linens, a standard weave of single colour cotton and linen, producing a tight weave in which the texture is a product of the threads themselves, not the weave. To view these Essex linens, go to the shop category Essex Linens or follow this link.
- Essex Yarn-dyed Linens, a yarn-dyed weave of two colours (or sometimes two values) of cotton and linen. To view these Essex yarn-dyed linens, go to the shop category Essex Yarn-Dyed Linens or follow this link.
- Essex Yarn-dyed Homespun Linens, a yarn-dyed weave of heavyweight cotton and linen threads, producing a coarser, somewhat looser weave. To view these, go to the shop category Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun Linens or follow this link.
Sold in multiples of 1/2 Yard.
Multiple units purchased will be shipped in one continuous piece where possible, and two pieces where necessary.
