Leslie Tucker Jenison does design fabulous fabrics for Robert Kaufman! This quilt was inspired by, and uses, her Warehouse District fabric line. The feature fabric is an over-stamped geometric design that has a distinctly "painterly" look and feel. Starting with this fabric, I sought to create the edgy feel of a warehouse district in the contrasting colours and shapes that I chose for this design. The resulting quilt has a mid-century vibe that is both fun and unusual.
The many varied shades of cream and beige in the background are a variety of textured fabrics, some cotton and some cotton-linen. These textures further support the overall industrial theme of this design. Irregular quilting can further support the industrial look and feel.
As with most of my quilt kits, the fabrics used are a mix of textures so that the finished quilt has a tactile as well as visual interest. Always my fabrics are selected from lines that offer the best quality, so the finished quilt will last a lifetime.
This project is suitable for both beginners and more experienced quilters. The quarter-circle piecing is well-described in the pattern and my website has a link to my YouTube video demonstrating the sewing of a quarter-circle. The kit includes fabric for top and binding, pattern, and a lightweight woven cotton fusible interfacing to stabilize the outer edges of the quilt top before sandwiching and quilting. This ensures that the quilt top stays on the square while you are finishing the quilt and there is no fraying of the woven cotton-linens along the outer edge of the quilt.
You have the option of purchasing just the kit, or the kit along with a backing fabric chosen to complement the quilt top. All backing fabrics are of the same high quality as the fabrics in my kits.
The quilt finishes at 55" x 72". It will be fully machine washable and dryable when finished. I don't recommend washing the fabrics prior to piecing the quilt top.
All my kits are custom designed, cut and assembled in my smoke and pet-free studio in Vancouver, BC.
